Welcome To The DairyAntibiogram Hub

This site provides introductory information about antibiotic resistance testing in bacteria which cause mastitis in dairy cattle. Antibiotic resistance is an important and complex phenomenon. Your veterinarian is the best person to discuss the results with you, and to formulate appropriate treatment protocols and action plans to manage mastitis and antibiotic resistance on your farm. Dairyantibiogram results and data should be interpreted by a dairy veterinarian experienced in mastitis management and using antimicrobial susceptibility data. You can request a Dairyantibiogram test through your veterinarian, or alternatively you can click on the link below if you’d like more information or if you’d like us to contact your vet to ask them to discuss Dairyantibiogram testing with you.

THE VISION OF DAIRYANTIBIOGRAM

1. Promote and help facilitate responsible and sustainable antimicrobial use on dairy farms.
2. Promote and enable good antimicrobial stewardship in the dairy industry.
3. Use broth microdilution methodology to provide convenient and economical antibiograms which can be used by vets in association with other clinical and farm data to develop appropriate farm plans for a farm’s mastitis management, treatment, and antimicrobial resistance mitigation.
4. Define and objectively quantify the current status of antimicrobial susceptibility of the common mastitis pathogens in New Zealand.
5. Monitor this status over time.
6. Maintain a database so that different antimicrobial use patterns and their effects on antimicrobial resistance can be investigated.
